Happy 2010!!!!
Hello Divas! Well another year is over. Have you made your resolutions for the new year? What about for the new decade? Did Santa bring you everything you wanted for the holidays? I am blinged out in my new Tiffany ring, calendar, business card holder and wallet; I've got a new Michael Kors black patent purse (can you believe my honey did that???) and plenty of Sephora gift cards to get me through the year. Oh ... but the See's is all gone.
Let me start off the new Year by saying that I, for one, have resolved to have beauty in my life - both inside and out, and energy - either manufactured (red bull) or earned (stairclimbers) - and relaxation (massages at La Estancia, here I come! and sleep! I'm thinking the beauty part will be the easiest. Let's get started. I have so much to blog about!
First, I have discovered the most fabulous face mask ever. You must trust me and go get it for yourself. Is was a 100 point perk recently at Sephora. Maybe they have a few left at your local mall. It's Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask. It's amazing! You put a generous layer on your damp face and voila! In a few seconds, it starts bubbling like hydrogen peroxide! You can feel it sudsing and pulling out all of the toxins, but it leaves your smooth remarkable clean, soft and bright!
And on the same note, I really am a fan of Bliss products. I'd like to go to the Bliss Spa in New York some day. Maybe this will be the decade for my first trip to the Big Apple. Meanwhile, I did use Bliss All Around Eye Cream and I do recommend it. Not too heavy and not too light, so you can use it as a multitasker for both day and night. However, I am still partial to Chanel, among others.
Another fun product I tried, with much trepidation given my prior "peel" experiences, was Murad's Intensive Resurfacing Peel. The first time I tried it, I definitely felt the spicy tingle of a peel, which is how I knew it was working. my face felt nice and smooth afterwards and it didn't get too uncomfortable. When I used it again a couple of weeks later, I didn't hardly feel it at all. So question - does the peel only work once? I'll have to try that psychotic one again and see what happens.
Let's talk product lines for a minute. I have decided that there are truly a few fabulous lines out there where nearly everything you try seems worth it. Combining the products from the same line has also shown some great skin improvement. A few of my favorites, despite the price tag:
Perricone MD: I hate the way most of the products smell (a little like fish oil, which is just weird). However, they are truly amazing and the scent is not enough to keep me away (nor is the price). The Face Finishing Moisturizer and the Ceramic Skin Smoother are just two of my favorites. Used in combination with the Ceramic Eye Smoother, you have a beautiful, clean and fresh palette to leave alone for the weekend or to start fresh with your favorite makeup.
Kinerase: Of course, this is a phenomenal product line. If you have sun damage or are hyper-concerned about SPF in products (as we all probably should be to prevent wrinkles), this line is a must have. What I particularly enjoy, however, is the softness to their products. In other words, the light coverage they provide doesn't feel at all thick or sticky and yet it soaks well into the skin.
Ole Henriksen: A much less pricier line, this company has several different products for your skin care and beauty regimen, many of which I absolutely swear by: Sheer Transformation, Truth Serum, Night Invigorating Gel, Walnut Complexion Scrub, the Blueberry & Blackberry Enzyme Mask, etc.
Peter Thomas Roth: And lastly, I am also in love with this brand. The Oil Free Moisturizer is spectacular. The Peel Pads are easy to use and provide a quick resurfacing treatment. The Cucumber Gel Masque is also a fantastic treatment for the bath or shower. It's cooling and very hydrating. The products in this line also seem to work best in combination with one another.
Now, for products I could live without ...
I tried Pangea Organics Turkish Rose & White Tea Eye Cream. Ummmm ... was it supposed to do something? I got the world's largest sample in one of those Xela packs and I just can't bring myself to really use it. It's stinky and doesn't absorb at all. It's organic. I guess that's nice. But it's also made in Boulder, CO, where they don't allow pit bulls. So ... go figure. Don't care for it. :) Quite frankly, if organics is your thing ... you should stick with Origins.
Speaking of organics, I've also been trying the new Jurlique products. The Night Lotion was definitely lightweight, but just a little too rose-scented for my taste. Also, it didn't mix well over my night serums, even though it is recommended for that. I'm just not impressed. Again ... stick to Origins if you just have to be organic. However, we all know how I feel about "rice bran" mascara and the like. Seriously ... if you plan on combatting wrinkles with some tea bags and some olive oil ... you've come to the wrong blog. I'm sure that's a lovely, relaxing thing to do after your Botox injections, but come on!
Oooooh... and here's an interesting product. Cover FX Treatment and Priming Serum. It comes out like oil... pure oil, but it doesn't feel that way on your skin. If you use too much, I imagine it would feel that way, but I thought it was a nice change for under tinted moisturizer. See, I love tinted moisturizer in place of foundation. However, as every diva now knows, before you put any color on your face, you need a primer. I don't actually like putting primer on my face before my moisturizer. But, if you use a tinted moisturizer, that's what you have to do. This product is a great buffer for that. When you put this serum on first, it feels very moisturizing under the primer, but it doesn't feel too sticky. Sephora sells a min version for only $8. As such, I highly recommend it for those times when you need a bit more under your tinted moisturizer.
Well ... me and my Sephora gift cards intend to have a blast this year and report on all of the goodness that makes its way from the shiny shelves to under my bathroom sink. Have a wonderful start to the New Year and good luck with all of your diva resolutions!
