I Can't Get Enough Of Your Products Babe!
Divas, divas, divas! Can it be true? Are there still more beauty products that remain untested? Will the sampling ever end? Um ... nope! It's the one little pleasure I allow myself while flipping back and
forth between emails and my blog. When most people in the country are fast asleep and hopefully having happy happy dreams that aren't Ambien-induced, I am considering my night time nap, but not before a little skin-lovin' to my face. And those of you who are emailing during those hours - you know who you are - stop that! Go to bed! That stupid little red light on the Crackberry will NEVER stop blinking and the likelihood of a global cell-tower meltdown just isn't going to happen. So ... let it sit until tomorrow, lest you start to need a thicker set of glasses. Oh ... and in case you haven't noticed, I just give advice, I don't really take it. :)
Well, there is a point to all of this, I promise. Look at that woman on the right. Look at how wrinkly she is making her face. Nothin' but a few shots of Botox is gonna clear that up! Ladies - we don't want to look like that, do we? Okay, so it is time to put down the Chanel anti-puffiness and just start getting some real sleep. Since we can't just nap in our pen drawer like this adorable little pup, we've got to rest up at night. For those of you who still refuse (you also know who you are and, yes, this Diva is one of them) ... let's discuss eye masks!
Remember how I forked over $8 for the Sephora Power Mask and was all dissatisfied with it? Well, I almost thought I'd never try another one, thinking they are total BS. But, then I was given a free sample of Talika Paris Eye Therapy Patch. It comes in the nifty $140 free sample pack that you will receive for purchasing $100 or more of product from Beauty.com. So, if you have been holding back on Philosophy's Divine Illumination, which is $85, this special sample deal makes the price seem worth it! Anyway, this little eye patch felt very similar to the Sephora one, but you could feel it working. It wasn't as cooling as the other one, but there was a definite tingle. Plus, you can multi-task with this mask on because it just goes on under the eye. I have to say, though, I wish it went on the lid too, given that I did notice a difference after completion of the process. Now, the mask does say it is reusable, but I didn't feel that it was, like I did with the Sephora mask. I did feel that the dark circles and eye puffiness were reduced. Again, temporarily though. Again, each pair of patches should be reusable 3 times. I think if you purchase the whole set, since it comes with a little case, you should be able to reuse them. The masks costs $62 for 6 pair and the case.
Now, I also used the fun little eye-mask pair similar to the above - Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask. First off, I recommend using this one in the morning and not at night because it really stings for awhile. Whereas the top one is white and you peel away the plastic covering, this creepy one is in a little clear pouch with tinfoil on top. You pop the liquid product with your fingers and it runs into the eye mask pads. Again, the pads go under your eyes. They are nude colored and the product is kind of messy because it doesn't really soak in. There is a bit too much product for the thinness of the mask. But .... if puffiness is your issue - this is for you. I would recommend having one on hand for whatever it is in your life that might cause major puffiness. For me, it's a definite post-crying-jag product. It doesn't help with the dark circles, but that's what concealer is for. This product is $54 for 4 non-reusable pairs from Sephora. But, you get one in the Fix-It Kit Skincare Deluxe Sampler kit I blogged about below.
While on that fab little Fix-It-Kit, let's discuss Perricone MD Ceramic Skin Smoother. Holy cow what a product! You get 1/2 an ounce for basically $3.33 in the kit. The true value of a 1/2 ounce - $37.50!!! The treatment really gives you very smooth skin and fills in your lines, but in a different way than primer does. I like to smooth it on over my moisturizer and under my primer. But, sometimes I use it at night over my moisturizer just to give me that smooth feeling and look. I also use it in place of primer if I'm not doing full make-up. I love it!
Now, let's move on to lips and a product that really ticked me off. One of my new favorite brands is Fresh. I've discovered the super fresh lemony-sugary scent and softness that makes me feel soap-and-water clear. I was so excited about trying out Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment in SPF 15. The damn tube is $22.50 and is really like a basic chapstick. I am not kidding. Yes, it smells fabulous. Yes, its rosy little color makes you feel like you have sexy soft lips for like two minutes. Yes, the baby pink tube is adorable. Yes, it smells unbelievably lemony, sweet, sugary and girl. But for god sake - really, $22.50??? It last for like 5 minutes and feels kind of... I don't even know the word ... slippery? Like it's not soaking in. And god forbid you take a drink of anything because it's gone! I mean, I have it now, so I use it at night, but it really stinks. I hope I saved someone else from wasting their hard-earned money.
Well, and you know I only bought the sugar lips above if I could get it with something free. So, I really purchased the Fresh Star Light Star Bright Kit. Totally cute little packaging, $38 worth of product for $28. The problem is, almost all of the product is yuckola or blah. The Supernova Mascara is pretty much the most worthless I've ever tried on. It's actually worse than the rice bran one from Korres! The Twighlight Freshface Glow just doesn't give you a glow at all and isn't that great of
a moisturizer either. (Again, although fabulously smelling.) Now, the Sugar Eau de Parfum is not as fabulous as the Fresh Sugar Lemon, but it is a lovely little sample to have at your desk for a fresh pick me up. Basically, their products are just super fabulously smelling and very, very soft. They just don't last that long. Remember how much I love the gloss, even though it's $18? I say, if you are a person who just loves clean scents and, at the same time, doesn't like to wear a lot of make up, this brand is for you. I totally recommend their soaps and fragrances and bath products. Also, they make great gifts because, especially if you purchase from their website, the gift packaging is outstanding.
Oh, oh, oh ... let me tell you about the worst expensive product ever. (I swear, I've tried so many expensive products recently that are completely crap!) This one takes the cake. Think mascara. Think mascara called "Black Ice". Ooooooh. What a pretty color. It comes in a tubey-tube thing that is all shiny and gold. Mmmmmm. Lovin' that. It thickens and lengthens. Such a deal. It's $32. Say what? Yes. I said ... it is mascara that costs $32. Oh ... and it SUCKS!!!! Oh hell no. You can barely get it to paint your lashes. I mean coat after coat after coat after coat and it won't get any darker. It lengthens a little, but you can't even see it!!! What is the freaking point. Just yuck. This is Jane Iredale Longest Lash. Now, to be fair, allegedly it contains sea minerals that help your lashes grow. Whatever - it still has to look good now! Must miss!
Seriously, you've read enough right? I can't believe how much more I have to go! Two more things for tonight. Let's discuss primer again ladies. If you haven't discovered makeup primer yet - just run down to Sephora and figure it out! You HAVE to! But let
me save you a little time (and a lot of money). Primer should feel a little like, I don't know, silicone. It should feel soft, but not like moisturizer. It should feel like when you put it on your skin, it's going to lay over the top of your pores and fine lines. To feel what a perfect primer should feel like, I recommend you feel Bare Escentuals Prime Time and Smashbox (as
long as it is not Smashbox's oil free primer). If your primer feels like moisturizer - it's NOT worth it. I tried Paula Dorf Perfect Primer ($36/oz.), Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer ($52/oz. holy crap), and Make Up Forever HD Microperfecting Primer ($32/oz). Again, some of my favorite brands, but it just doesn't do what it is meant to do. Now, if you just can't STAND to have the thicker primer on your face (but don't knock it until you try it because it feels like silk), then Hourglass and Makeup Forever are your best bets.
Now, drum roll please. For the last item of the day, I give you the latest Your Daily Sample Must Have. Yes, check the right hand side of those "most have" items and you will find it there. Listen to
me (MOM), I know that you probably have your favorite eye makeup remover. You probably think that this is the only one that will work. Forever, I was a die-hard believe in Lancome's Double Action. My eye makeup remover had to have oil in it. Then I discovered that Neutrogena made the same thing. Then, I discovered that Target did. Okay, as I have aged, I realize how bad that tugging and pulling on that delicate skin around your eyes to get your eye makeup off really is. But, I could never get my eye makeup off any other way!!! Well, I found it ... the holy grail. Make Up Forever Sens' Eyes. Listen, if you don't believe me, just go
down to Sephora and ask for a sample. And, while you are there, paint your whole hand with the thickest mascara you can find. Add eyeliner. Then, take the aqua blue lotion and put a dab over the eye-on-your-hand. Rub. Watch it just dissolve!!! When you get your little sample home, you just rub it on your eyes and then swab off with a tissue. Seriously, it's the best. 3.38 ounces is $23. But, I highly recommend the current Make Up Forever Kit I blogged about earlier. See to the left. You get the must have HD Microfinish powder (full size), a perfect travel size of this eye makeup remover, a full size eyeliner, a full size mascara and yes, the primer that isn't really primer. But, it;s a $91 value for only $49. Seriously. You have to have it.
